Sacramental Program

Father Tony

The Emmaus Parish has a family centred, parish based Sacramental Program which is supported by the three primary schools of St Therese, St Joseph's and St Thomas.

As the primary educators of their children, parents have the right and responsibility to be integrally involved in the sacramental preparation process. Their attendance and participation is crucial to their children's sacramental development.

The Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Communion are offered to baptised Catholic children from 7 years of age. Readiness for the sacraments is not determined by chronological age, but an interest in the sacraments and the Mass and a family's ability to commit to the process of preparation. Preparation involves parent meetings, family workshops, small family groups and working through a workbook for each of the sacraments. Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered at the 6pm Saturday night Parish Mass at St Therese Church and families have found that this has been useful in sacramental preparation.

Information regarding registration for the Sacramental Program is available through both the Parish and school newsletters.

For children and families who express an interest in the Church or for Catholic families who have not had their children baptised before starting school, the Parish offers a Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) program.

This is a program to prepare school-aged children for the three Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Communion) and is run on a needs basis.
